We met at another boxing gym back in January 2019 and had been together about a year before the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March 2020 and we found ourselves with nowhere to train and a lot of time on our hands.

Scott decided to get a few of us together to do some socially distanced circuit training on a neglected field in Darwen, using some old cones to mark out exercises and safe spaces. The difference it made to us all, struggling without our usual sessions, was incredible.

When it was safe to do so, he extended the free invitation to other people and over the next few months, the 'S.I.T.H.I' class was born: Social Interaction Through Healthy Initiatives. Over 40 families came and took part and our group became a real community.

We changed location twice and eventually ended up working together with Glenside Junior Football Team on their training ground. When the weather started to turn, we went on the hunt for a small premise to continue the sessions.

We completed our boxing training courses and got busy planning what we were going to offer.

We begged for and borrowed kit from the four corners of Lancashire and beyond, accepting any kit that very kind people were giving away or selling cheaply, in order to build up our little space and keep SITHI going. Whitefield Youth Association in Nelson also gave us a lot of support and ensured we started off on the front foot, for which we were very grateful.

When we were finally given the go-ahead, we started the boxing sessions in our new premises in Accrington.

First the classes started, then a couple of bouts, followed by more and more fights on events around Lancashire and now, some of our members fight for titles in and around the North West.  Scott has also now gained his Second's license with the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC).

In June 2023, we doubled the space of the gym by aquiring the unit next door and in March 2024 bought our second boxing ring. We were granted Community Interest Company status in August 2023 and have also been fortunate enough to start replacing some of our kit and equipment thanks to some local funding. In September 2024, we successfully hosted our own home show and have two more planned for June and October 2025.

Why don't you come and see what it's all about? We look forward to welcoming you!
